And, on top of that, did he have to steal all my leaving thunder with his stupid arriving thunder? But when they unexpectedly bond over their difficult home lives, and realize their caustic banter is actually verbal foreplay, sparks fly between them.

Love Like Hate Adore, by Deirdre Purcell (Town House, £6.99)

Best of all, Bianca discovers that every single person at school has felt like the DUFF of their social group, and learns to wear the title proudly. Kissing and making up has never been so fun. Convinced that Day murdered her brother, Metias, June is determined to bring Day to justice.

For his part, Day struggles with his own intense feelings for June, the only girl in the history of their world to score a perfect at Trial. The action has dire consequences: according to custom, she must now present Quince before the royal court in Thalassinia, and say goodbye to her dreams of a life with Brody.

Then again, maybe Quince is the real deal, if she can look past her previous assumptions about him. You ever read a book that kind of is doing your head in in a good way , and it makes your head hurt being steeped in that darkness but you still want to know what happens in the end? Review will come soon enough, I just feel like I need to clear my head after it — have you ever felt like that with a book?

How did you decompress after? Either way, they were a relief to contemplate.

Her Kind of Case is a legal drama that centers on Lee Isaacs, a female defense attorney on the cusp of turning 60, who, out of curiosity, determination, and desire for a big, even impossible, professional challenge, chooses to take on a tough murder case in which a largely uncooperative young man is accused of helping kill a gay gang member.

This beautifully written novel, which earned a starred review from Kirkus, is built around not only a gradually resolving mystery, but by fully fleshed-out characters, particularly the strong-willed and sharp-witted Lee. Note: The author, Jeanne Winer, is herself a longtime defense attorney in Boulder, Colorado, and a black-belt karate expert. As the blurb points out, it is a breath of fresh air to see a woman in this age range kick butt in the courtroom like this — and that is really what I hope brings something new to the legal drama.

Janet Watson knows firsthand the horrifying cost of a divided nation. Homeless and jobless, Watson is uncertain of the future when she meets another black and queer woman, Sara Holmes, a mysterious yet playfully challenging covert agent who offers the doctor a place to stay. But the tensions between them dissolve when Watson discovers that soldiers from the New Civil War have begun dying one by one-and that the deaths may be the tip of something far more dangerous, involving the pharmaceutical industry and even the looming election. Joining forces, Watson and Holmes embark on a thrilling investigation to solve the mystery-and secure justice for these fallen soldiers.

Holmes and Watson are women of colour in a whole new world where a different kind of Civil War rages? Felicity Cole sells flowers in the streets of Victorian London to feed herself and her young brother. But she has a close-guarded secret—her brother is a Tainted, born with special abilities that society fears and a shadowy organization called the Hunstsman scours the country to eliminate.

Struggling to harness her incredible strength, speed, and agility, and despised by her classmates, all she wants is to use her new position to find a cure so she can be normal and reunited with her brother. This looks like such FUN, and historical fantasy to boot!

Everyone is dying to read the latest book in the popular Gap Lake mystery series, and Addison is no exception. As the novels biggest fan, Addison is flattered when the infamously reclusive author, R. Rosen, contacts her, granting her inside information others would kill for. And as other terrifying events from the book start happening around her, Addison has to figure out how to write her own ending -and survive the story.

A genre-defying page turner that fuses thriller and speculative fiction with dark fantasy in a hidden world in the heart of Cold War Europe. And the true Cold War is fought on the borders of this world, at the edges of the light. When the assassination of a traitor trading with the enemy goes terribly wrong, British Intelligence agent Christopher Winter must flee London. A secret that will give supremacy to the nation that possesses it.

Racing against the Russians, the chase takes them from the demon-haunted Hungarian border to treasure-laden tunnels beneath Berlin, from an impossible house in Vienna to a bomb-blasted ruin in Bavaria where something unholy waits, born of the power of white fire and black glass.

How to Read When You Hate Reading - 5 Tips and Tricks

As always, great book selections this week. We need to get paid to wait on pins and needles for these books and then to read them lol.

All of these sound interesting! Maybe Game of Secrets and Copycat catch my interest more right now, but it is a dilemma when they all sound intriguing. I have been seeing Copycat around, and am thinking about taking it out of the library, because the things I am seeing are good.
